Unlike other mediums, pen and ink require a strong understanding of line work, contrast, and composition and relates to many other types of drawing. One reason I like teaching pen and ink is that it encourages new artists to stop erasing! Erasing constantly with pencil/graphite is a common mistake that creates frustration. Since you need to just commit to your line (Since you can't erase) pen and ink will help you build more confidence in your drawing skills.

Mastering pen and ink also teaches artists how to simplify complex forms into essential shapes and lines. This skill translates well into digital art, painting, illustration, anime, and even tattoo design, making it a versatile technique to learn.
