Welcome to the Portrait Intensive! By the end of this course, you'll be able to draw anyone you want. You do not need to have any prior drawing experience, and I will guide you step by step on how to draw portraits. Go at your own pace and receive ongoing access to course materials. You'll get feedback from me along the way as well through our private server in Discord.
In this first modules, we're going to focus on understanding the structure of the head so that you can develop accurate proportions and get the correct facial structure in all of your drawings.
In this module, we'll explore how you can use measurement to get a more accurate likeness in your portrait.
This module explores crosshatching basic forms, since this is the fundamental shading technique used to create depth, texture, and tonal variation in pen and ink drawings.
You'll will learn the principles of both cross contour and crosshatching, including line direction, spacing, and layering to achieve smooth gradients and dynamic textures. By the end of the module, you will develop greater control over crosshatching, value, and shading and the ability to enhance your drawings with expressive line work.
This module will focus on how to build up depth and realism in your portraits using techniques such as value, hatching, crosshatching, understanding lighting on a subject, and understanding how to use line pressure and line direction to improve your portraits.
In this module, we’re going to focus more on how to draw facial features, so that in your portraits you'll improve your ability to accurate drawing the facial features.
In this last module, we're going to loosen up and learn how to sketch using gesture, and just get looser in our drawing. This actually will help you hone your accuracy in drawing even more. This will add some playfulness to your drawing, and help break out of the tightness and perfectionism that a lot of newer drawers often struggle with.
Objective: Create a finished pen and ink portrait using what you've learned in the course.
