Scale refers to the size of an object in a work of art and how it relates to other elements or to the whole composition. Artists use scale to create emphasis, balance, or exaggeration.
This lesson supports the National Core Art Standards by helping students:
VA:Cr1 (Creating): Apply visual organizational strategies to design and produce a work of art.
VA:Cr2 (Creating): Experiment with how the size and placement of objects affect the composition.
VA:Cn11 (Connecting): Analyze how art reflects changing times, traditions, resources, and cultural use.
